We’ve had some very strange weather yesterday and today. I knew there would be some great skies this morning, but the challenge is to get something interesting to put in the foreground. Santa Monica Pier is close so I high-tailed it down there. Lots of people wandering around with cameras, all with the same goal...  Venice Beach at 6:36 am. If you’re a surfer, you love this kind of water. There’s no wind yet and the water is like glass. Surfers were scarce this morning though. Pretty small waves and the tide was low.  Venice Pier isn’t nearly as long as it looks here. And I was set up only halfway out to the end. Such is the throw of a wide angle lens. I decided to give this one a more cinematic crop for a couple of reasons. First, it accentuates the thin line of detail along the...  Venice Beach is a serious circus during the summer. Really, it’s a circus all year round, but summer is especially crazy down here. My favorite time to come is early morning before the lunatics come out of the woodwork. This morning, early, I did my usual sky-check and knew it would look nice down there.... |
