Yearly Archives: 2011 Early morning at the Santa Monica Pier. I intended for this to be an HDR, but I didn’t like the look of it. I took the middle exposure and applied some new techniques I’ve learned from David Nightingale and his Chromasia tutorials. It looked Ok but I felt like it needed a little more punch....  Another one from the pier. I threw the kitchen sink at this one… a litany of various filters and effects. I vaguely remember an old art class lesson about, “less is more”, or something but I wasn’t really paying attention.  Had a fun encounter last night in Hermosa Beach with Justin Balog and Neil Kremer. Justin was here for a photo walk and to get material for his blog for an upcoming feature on this part of the South Bay known as, “The Strand”. It was great to meet him and finally meet Neil....  My new 50mm lens has gotten me more interested in shooting people and the Santa Monica Pier is a great place to do that. I’m not all that comfortable doing it though. I feel a little bit like a scientist studying life in a petri dish. And I know some people just hate cameras so...  Another one from Santa Monica Pier. I was in a hurry here and I didn’t catch exactly what this guy was doing. He was painting little scenes or designs, but I’m not sure what they were for. Anyway, what caught my eye was the small crowd around his table and the light illuminating their faces. |
